...knitting lesson

My mom is in town. She is an amazing knitter/sewer, and I decided to take advantage of her knowledge while I can. Today, she is going to teach me to knit. I am a little nervous. The perfectionist in me thinks this might be hard...and that I might not be good. (I am thinking back to sixth grade. I signed up to crochet a leprosy bandage for a service project. I could NOT get the sides to go straight. Every other 6th grader could...but mine was hideous. My mom had to talk me into turning it in when I was done because I was so mad/embarrassed about it, telling me that the wavy-bandage would still work. I was even a perfectionist at age 9. But...it tramatized me enough that I haven't tried knitting or crocheting since.)

We are going to do a little yarn shopping right now to make THIS awesome baby blanket. I am thinking there will be some apple green in it. I am obsessed with apple green...

I'll show you the results when I am done...I promise. Even if it is ugly.

  1. You will be great! And that's really the nice thing about knitting. You can always "rewind" and redo a spot if something bugs you (spoken from another insane perfectionist).

  2. Hannah!! I love it! That is so beautiful! You'll be fine. I've been knitting a lot lately and I find that it's more forgiving than sewing. The mistakes get hidden very well ;). I wish your mom could teach me how to crochet, I've been wanting to learn that one too. Good luck! I'm sure it will turn out darling!

  6. Oh, I love green, particularly as an accent. That blanket is just generous and luscious and cozy. I hope you enjoy yourself!

  7. Good luck knitting! I'm so in love with it is almost my only winter craft (almost). You should check out Ravelry if you're not concerned about getting addicted to another social/crafting networking site. Also...I heart apple green. I'm painting my kitchen chairs with it right now and fighting off the urge to cover the walls with it too.
