So, my hair is falling out. Majorly thinning. (Thank you, babies.) I am always shocked by the amount of new hair in my brush each morning. It's bad. And I have new little hairs coming in everywhere. I've always loved having long hair. My hair has always been one of my favorite features, actually. It's been a little tragic for me to see it fall out. (How come no one warned me that I'd have to deal with hair-loss after each child??)
Yesterday, my hair was really long; a couple of inches above my elbows. (Which looked exceptionally ridiculous on me. It made my hair look even more lifeless and thin.) So...last night I went to my wonderful hairdresser and had her chop it off. (And I didn't even cry this time!) Shoulder length now, and I think it suits my current hair situation.
My hairdresser advised me to get back on Nioxin. (One of my favorite shampoo/conditioner/hair treatment brands.) She also suggested drinking "green shakes" and trying Equate's version of Rogaine. (She likes the Walmart brand better, so I'm headed to pick it up today. You can find me in the aisle with the balding men.)
Rogaine at 28. This is not good.

Your hair looks great! I have struggled loving my hair since having babies too...but I hate mine short. You'll have to let me know how the Rogaine stuff works.
ReplyDeleteJust a suggestion - next time you go to see your doctor, ask about having your thyroid levels checked. My sister lost an enormous amount of hair and it was blamed on lots of things. When they finally checked her thyroid, they discovered her numbers were a mess. She was put on meds and her hair stopped falling out.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks great! I'm currently going though the same thing and It's much worse this time around- it's really no fun =o(
ReplyDeleteLove the new cut. Good luck with figuring things out! :)
ReplyDelete@Suzan: I actually have hypothyroidism, but I am already on meds. My doctor didn't think that was causing it, but maybe I'll have it checked again.
ReplyDeleteyour hair looks really cute! my hair falls out a lot, too. But my baby is 4 years old! I know its because of stress.
ReplyDeleteYou still look fantastic! But oh yes, the joys of thinning hair. I gave up & got mine cut a little below chin length with a slightly stacked back & it gives the illusion of thickness. =)
ReplyDeleteLove the hair, very chic.

I think your new do looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL on you!! It most definitely suits you wonderfully...
ReplyDelete@everyone: Thank you, thank you.
ReplyDelete@heidikins: chic? You just made my day.
I have THIN wavy curly hair and when my hair was long it was constantly getting knotted and I had lumps of hair when I finger brushed it in the shower... I went short and don't have that problem anymore! I dread growing it out for my wedding... I chopped it off one last time this month before I start growing it out.
ReplyDeleteYou look great, girl! I am also losing a bunch of hair but I am a little older than you. Luckily, my hair is sooo thick that it's not noticable. Don't worry about it, you're beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMost pregnant women do not lose hair during their pregnancies. As a result the 100+ hairs a day you should lose sticks around. You notice that your hair gets extra thick during the pregnancy. However, the hormones generated during pregnancy wain afterwards allowing for the hair loss you hadn't been experiencing to now explode. It seems like you are losing gobs of hair when in reality its the hair that stuck around now making its long awaited departure. Your hair should return to normal soon and you can use those products or just save your money and wait it out. Now, on the other hand... I am post menopausal and have a similar problem with on catch. My hair won't get the message to grow back so of the 100+ hairs a day leaving, none are in the wings to grow back. [snif] [snif]
ReplyDeleteYou look beeee-a-utiful! (my MAC's auto correct is insisting that beee-a-utiful is not a word. I'm insisting that it is... so let's just go with it)
ReplyDeleteMy hair has finally stopped falling out and all my new growth is ridiculously awesome. It looks like one of my kids took a razor to the sides of my hair. Ya, it's hot!
You'd never know it! Your hair looks beautiful! I love the cut :)
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous, Hannah! I love the new cut! Have fun with the balding men! ;) LOL!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? Hannah your beautiful (inside & out)! You know, a quick fix is to get peg again...j/k! Seriously, I alternate between nioxin & my reg shampoo, and love the combo.
ReplyDeleteI had an identical situation after the babes. No fun having tons of new growth on top, and long stringy hair going down your back. The cut looks great! I think I'll try that shampoo out as mine is growing out. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHannah, I love your new hair cut. It looks really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love it,you look gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteI have read your blog for a few years now and this is my first comment. I have very similar hair to yours (now) and about the same color, maybe a little redder. I have a question, what are green shakes?
ReplyDeletethanks, stephanie
I love your new cut- it looks great!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous as usual! The one of you smiling looks so much like your daughter!
ReplyDelete@Stephanie Garavaglia: Green shakes have greens in them. (Usually spinach.)
ReplyDeleteUm, ya...at least you’re not getting WHITE hairs at 31!!!!!! =) (just to put things into perspective!)
ReplyDeleteI love your cut! So cute! As a person with super thin, baby-fine hair, the only time I'm ever able to have hair a little long (like to my chin-that's long for me!) is when I'm pregnant. Just enjoy the decreased time it will take to style, in addition to how "now" it is! Love it!
ReplyDeleteSooo what happened to me, too, Hannah! And no one told me that it could happen, but it did. I, too, cut it "short", for me anyway, and let it get healthy, again, before settling in to watch it grow. And it did. I'm, still, waiting on that perfect length, but it'll get there. You look beautiful, by the way ;)!
ReplyDeleteLove the cut. It looks healthy! I am surprised Stacy suggested Rogaine! wow - that's fun :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the new cut Hannah! I think it actually makes you look younger. And comparing it to your profile pic...it suits you even better. The soft bangs especially look great, really pulls the focus onto your eyes and lips.
ReplyDeleteOn the thinning hair front, I hear you girl! Mine is so fine, but after the babies it became fine AND thin..then last year it started falling out in spots...literally bald spots. It was horrible. I know a lot of it was due to stress, so I tried to de-stress what I could. But I also started taking these vitamins called Be Beautiful (from GNC) and using Nioxin. My hair is still naturally fine, but it's not falling out anymore and not nearly as thin. I also try to keep it around chin-shoulder length to keep it full.
@Dawn: Thanks for the tips!! I'm going to check out those pills.
ReplyDeleteyour new do looks wonderful, hannah! such pretty pics of you:)
ReplyDeletedon't worry, it all grows back!
I forgot your hair was ever that short! I actually gasped out loud at the photo when I clicked on the link.
ReplyDeleteJust think. When you're 38 you won't be having babies and will have fantastic hair.
You look fabulous. I have not yet resorted to Rogaine, but you know I have the same issues and I'm definitely not above trying it.
ReplyDeleteYou look so beautiful in those pictures. Really stunning. I hope you enjoy the new haircut.
ReplyDeleteHannah, you are so beautiful! I was expecting horrible pictures. Quite the contrary. You look fab!
ReplyDeleteWell I think you have an amazing hairdresser, she has done a wonderful job, you look beautiful and I really like your hair that length. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMy hair is thinning too, thanks for posting about Walmart's brand of romaine. I didn't have much luck with Nioxin, a little difference but not a lot.
ReplyDeleteDear Hannah, I love your hair. It is a beautiful length. And dangit, dangit, dangit about the hairloss. I'm so sorry. I hope something helps it to grow back.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm seeing how much your little E. looks like you. These pictures are like a grown up version of her!
how cute are you...and look at this fabulous new cut!
ReplyDeletexx
I think you look HOT!!! YEEHAW!
ReplyDeleteYes...I noticed that my hair is thinning since I had my babies too...I'm surprised I'm not bald! LOL
Hair looks fabulous. And you look thin, thin, thin. The no sugar thing is paying off!
ReplyDeleteFirst, you hair looks fab! Second, I am too amazed each day the amount of hair that is in my brush. The longer my hair the more hair seems to come out. I will have to look at that Nioxin.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I have two balds spots near my temples where the hair will never fill in, I fear. No more pinning the bangs back, for me. :)
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks darling.
You look beautiful in these photos!
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable! The new cut suits you. It's so stylish!
ReplyDeleteAnd I so went through that too, after each pregnancy. Oh my gosh, what a nightmere! Eventually it stopped, but I had to cut my hair after each one, and I really hate short hair on me. It's super-curly, so you cut off an inch and it looks like 4 because there's less weight to pull the curls down.
Hope you find something that works for you in the meantime! But you look gorgeous!
Hannah!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you the other day when I came to pick up Ele. I LOVE your hair!!! You are such a beautiful woman inside and out, and your hair looks fabulous!!
XOXO
I don't know how I missed this post! hA! I love how funny and sarcastic you were in this one! You kill me! And, so honest. I love it.
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome!! The cut is so great on you! You have always looked darling--so I'm not surprised. It seems you can pull off ANY style!
good work. Love your blog.
love melis
I spotted your updated picture on the right at the top of the page before seeing this post and thought how stunning your hair looked.
ReplyDeleteShoulder length really suits you.
xx
you look gorgeous! My hair is going to thin I'm sure of it... it REALLY did with my first! (but took a few months after the baby) I'm scared... (;
ReplyDeleteI love your new look Hannah! Your hair looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYour rockin' the look!
xoxo
