I finally got my craft on this weekend. I made two matching necklaces: one for me and one for a craft exchange I'm participating in. I've been spotting these necklaces everywhere and had to make my own version.
They are so simple and easy. I chose to make mine with dark wooden beads and navy & sky blue rick rack. I was picturing wearing it with a white t-shirt and jeans...until I realized I didn't own a white t-shirt. (How weird is that? I've added it to my "must purchase soon" list.)
I used two strands of embroidery thread. (I'm sure there is a more professional-jewelry thread that you should use, but alas, I am no jewelry-making pro.) To make the rosettes, you roll up 4-5 inches of rick rack, adding glue to both raw edges to prevent fraying, and pierce through the center with a needle and thread. I alternated between light and dark rosettes with small and large wooden beads in between each one. Tie the ends of the thread once the necklace is your preferred size. Tuck the threads into a bead to hide ends.
I love the way it turned out. Thinking about making a pink and yellow one next...
