Wedding Invites.

Wedding invites rank at the top of my "Favorite Things to Design" list. I was thrilled when Laura, my future sister-in-law, and my brother asked me to design theirs. Laura's favorite color is purple and her wedding colors are navy, deep plum and a lighter blue. When we first discussed the design, she knew she wanted a folio inner envelope and she wanted a tree stamped on it. So, our first obstacle was finding a pretty tree stamp. After a little looking, we came across tree stamp in the Thoughts and Prayers set by Stampin' Up. Laura thought it was perfect!
We bought the set, stamped and embossed it on the front of 330 purple folio envelopes. I designed/drew the rest of the announcement pages to coordinate with the stamp. Laura's design requests made for a very elegant invitation.

The most time consuming part of the process came when the designing and printing was all done. I addressed my brother's portion of the invitations. It's been a while since I've done that! I'd forgotten how much work hand-addressing invitations is. (I love it though!) I used the last of the ink in my favorite pen. (THE BEST pen in the world. I used to be a Pilot P-700 lover, but my loyalties have changed. I'm now obsessed with this Japanese(?) Envelope Address Writing pen, also by Pilot. My mom said she would buy me some replacements in payment for addressing the invitations. Ha! That's a pretty good family discount!)
I sent the last of them out yesterday. You can get married now, Adam and Laura!

  5. @Alice: Someone actually did make it into a font, but because my handwriting is so non-uniform, it only loosely resembles my writing. But, you can download it from here:

  9. The picture really doesn't do justice to the folio. Not that I don't love the inserts, but the folio is my favorite part. The clear embossing gives a really cool effect on the dark purple paper.

  13. What are your favorite programs to design with?

What printer do you use to order your products from once you have them designed? For example, did you buy and cut all of the purple folio envelopes?

    Simply beautiful!

  14. @Tara: I design almost everything in Adobe Illustrator.

I have a couple favorite local printers that I use.

The folios were premade. You can buy them from Kinkos or a few online retailers.
