RIBBON STORAGE by Hannah Craner

I'm all about storage solutions that are both practical and pretty. A few months ago, my ribbons were stored in a way that was neither. I had all my ribbon on spools in a big, red IKEA box. The spools were unraveling. There were little ribbon scraps everywhere. The ribbon was tangled and I couldn't find the color I was looking for. I decided that wasn't working for me. (I wish I would have taken a picture...cause it was an enormous mess.)

I was crafting with a friend of mine in February and she had an adorable jar of ribbons wrapped around vintage clothespins. I decided to steal the idea.

I bought the clothespins at my local Ace Hardware. (They were $5 for 50. I have heard that a lot of people have found vintage clothespins at Dollar Tree, but my local store doesn't carry them.)

My friend told me she found her jar at Walmart, so I followed her lead. I found the perfect jar in the office supply area. It was tall and fat with a darling silver lid. They were $12/each, but because I needed three, I decided that was too much money. (I'm cheap.) In the kitchen area, however, I found glass cookie jars for $5/each! They were about the same size with almost the same silver lid. (The $12 lid fit tightly, but the cookie jar lid doesn't at all.)

Using clothespins with ribbon is pretty self explanatory. You take the ribbon, insert the end into the slot and then wrap the remaining ribbon around the clothespin. Secure with a pin. Sort them into jars. I sort by color. My friend, however, prefers to sort by finish. (She has satin ribbon in one jar, grosgrain ribbon in another.)

I love this new storage solution for a few reasons. First, it is cute. Second, I can store a few inches or up for 4-5 yards the same way. Third, they are very easy to use and way easy to spot the right ribbon in the clear jar.
