Sister-of-the-Groom.

My mom told me that the rule of being a good mother-of-the-groom is, "Show up, shut up and wear beige." My mom is awesome. It made me laugh, but it also got me thinking about the rules of a good sister-of-the groom.

Yesterday, my future sister-in-law was in town. Sarah and I met her to taste-test the food that will be served at the wedding brunch. (Yum.) While we were there, Sarah asked Laura what she'd like us to wear and if anything was "off-limits" for the sisters-of-the-groom. Laura, being the non-bossy-bride type told us that we could wear whatever we feel best in. So now I'm stressing. What do sisters-of-the-groom wear to a wedding? Should we avoid the wedding colors when we aren't in the wedding party? Or should we try to match? Or does the beige rule apply to us?

I've been shopping today. I'm thinking of doing something like this:
Cardigan (Purple is a wedding color.)
Blouse
Skirt
Belt
Shoes

What do you think? Too sterile?

  1. I think matching in a not obvious way is appropriate. Like jewelry and accents that match, etc. Then you coordinate but aren't distracting or confuse the photographer about whether you should be in some of the pictures or not.

  2. I think it is great! Very stylish. You could add some sort of fun hair accessory to give it a punch of fun.

  6. My mother-in-law uses that same saying. Hilarious.

I think that outfit looks fantastic. Not sterile at all! You will look great.

  8. Layers are always good--when's the wedding? You can always take the cardigan off and show off your bod in that pencil skirt :)

  9. Hmm...I think matching in a not-trying-to-be-in-the-bridal-party kinda way is the way to go. I think the outfit is cute! - - love the shoes - - I am sorta thinking the top part is too...sterile, good word..I was going to say proper or something...stiff. Although the cardigan is fun with those flowers. Do you have some fun neck bling bling to make it less....your word - sterile - or more party/funish....?

  10. Looks fabulous Hannah! I have photographed a few weddings and it is great if family is sharing in the wedding colors because its definantly confusing when you dont know whos family and whos just friends! I have been looking for a sweater like that one and hadnt had any luck so thank you! I want the black and coral ones :)

  12. I think trying to match the wedding party would be somewhat important. Even though you're not in the wedding party, you'll be in lots of pictures with people who are.
