Finally sharing my recipe. I know, I know. I promised them sooner, but things came up this weekend and blogging was pushed to the back-burner. Hopefully, there is still time to incorporate it into your Thanksgiving Day feast.
Before I disclose the how-to, you have to know something about me and my "recipes." First, I am not a chef, but I do know what tastes good. (And these DO...mmmm!) Second, I don't measure. Ever. I am guessing on the measurements, but I usually just add the ingredients until I am satisfied. Third, all my recipes are super simple. I really hope you enjoy this as much as I do! It is a favorite dish in our home.
CANDIED YAMS
6 yams (I always look for the long, skinny ones that are a uniform size from end-to-end.)
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup brown sugar
salt to taste
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut yams into 1/3-inch thick disks and spread a single layer across 1-2 cookie sheets. Melt butter and pour evenly over yams. Sprinkle brown sugar and salt evenly across yams. Place in oven for 30 minutes, or until fork tender. Move to serving platter and pour leftover syrup on cookie sheets over yams.
Top with candied pecans if desired. Mmmmmm!
ok, i am so proud of myself. when you posted saying that you were going to post this recipe and that you made it up yourself, i started thinking... if i were going to make a candied yams, how would i do it. mind you i have never had them before... ever. i know weird. but i said, slice yams, lots of butter and brown sugar. woo-hoo. i guess if i had had to guess, they would have turned out fabulous!! i wouldn't have thought to add salt though. can't wait to try them.
ReplyDeleteoh and i hope everything is ok with your family. thinking of you, and happy birthday!
oh, Morgan. Salt is essential. Good job guessing how i make them. ;)
ReplyDeleteYum. I wish I was having thanksgiving with you to eat these! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is the exact recipe we use and I cannot WAIT! Its so delicious, but I just found out that there are only a few of us who even like these in this family... How could someone not like these? Crazy!
ReplyDeletedarn...and I thought I made it up. ha! That is so funny, Adele. I have converted quite a few non-yam eaters to yams through this recipe. (Including my mother-in-law.)
