...giveaway extravaganza: KIDS AND CHORES

All of us parents know how hard it is to get children to help around in the house. I struggle. (Ok...confession...my daughter told me I was not her mother, but her "stepmother" because I make her work like Cinderella.) So...Kids and Chores was heaven sent!

Made by the organization queen, Janet Nasbaum, this system will help teach you:
  • Easy ways to identify your child’s learning style and the most effective teaching methods.
  • The major challenges in teaching children life skills in the new millennium.
  • 8 strategies to reduce home maintenance tasks by up to 40%.
  • How parents unknowingly teach their children not to want to do chores, and how to avoid making these mistakes with your children.
  • Step-by-step instructions that show you what you need to do and in what order to do it to set up your family chore system.
  • 8 necessary actions to take BEFORE launching your family’s chore system.
  • Steps to develop your own home maintenance plan.
  • What you need to know about your child to help you choose the most effective discipline methods.
  • 3 important actions to take to create “Team Family.”
  • At what age experts say your children are capable of performing each household task.
  • 10 essential steps for teaching your children household skills that will increase their retention and self-esteem.
  • 7 filtering questions to ask yourself when determining what to teach your children about money.
  • Identify the keys to effective behavior modification.
  • Pros and cons to consider when deciding the best reward options for your family.
  • 5 strategies for motivating reluctant family members.
If you need help getting your kids to do their chores cheerfully, and I think most of us to, you should head over to Kids and Chores and order one for yourself!

  2. I love this idea. Teamwork, family organization these are all the items needed to run a smooth and happy home. This would be great for my two boys. They will be able to clean up, do their own laundry and cook themselves a good meal before they are out on their own one day.

  5. I have been worrying about getting my kids to help around the house. My son whose going to be 7 in 2 weeks whines and refuses to pick up anything. He'll "help" if we do it together. But, then it's basically me cleaning and him playing. Obviously, I need help. This system sounds like just the ticket to teach him and me how to clean effectively and work together.

  6. Oh I have seen this before and thought it was a great idea. I don't want my kids to have an aversion to hard work... like someone I know does. :) It's hard to teach your kids to do something even you don't want to do. haha.

  15. This system would be great. I have a 7 yr old, a 5 yr old and 1 yr old quadruplets. I would love to have more help from my older girls. Between laundry, dishes, cooking, household cleaning, playtime, and studies it seems like I try and do most things on my own just to avoid the fight! Please consider me

  18. This system would be an answered prayer! I have 3 boys. Coming from a traditional "Asian" family my husband side of the family thinks that jobs around the house is the woman's role. I totally disagree because that's not how I was raised up and my dad was not like that. When my mom was going to school for her master my dad stepped up and do everything from grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, etc and teach us how to do it. I want to teach my boys that each person has a contribution or a role in the family. Weather is a chores you have to do or other things. I also want them to grow up to be able to help their wives (I know that that's a long way to think), I'm sure that their wife would appreciate that. At the same time I don't want this to be a negative experience where I have to nag them to do their responsibilities. I want these boys to be versatile in many ways cleaning, cooking, etc...it will be good for them once they go off college, they can be independent. The best thing is that since we taught them early, it will be naturally in them and they can pass it down to their kids. That life is not about playing all day, but there's responsibility involve.

  20. I'm pretty sure I need this to get the hubby under control more than anything else... then hopefully Brode will have a grip on it before it becomes a chore in and of itself to teach him!

  21. I would LOVE to have this system! I need help figuring out how to work better with my son - he's the kind of kid you have to prep or explain something for a long time before he's comfortable with it or willing to do it (doctor's visits, picking up toys, etc). I'd love to see what she has to help me!

  24. How cool. I need this system because my daughter thinks it is funny to run away every time we ask her to help out with cleaning. Unless we tell her it will be vacuumed up or swept away.

  25. Are you kidding me? I actually experienced a physical reaction as I was reading on her site. Deep slow breaths and a little anxiety at the thought of not having to threaten or bribe anymore. Please, please please include me. My children Need me to have this!
    Thanks!

  29. When I saw the following statement on the Kids and Chores website, I knew it was tailor made for me.

You cannot truly gain control of your home and achieve
an organized lifestyle if your children are a part of the
problem and not an active and consistent part of the solution.

I feel that; I really do.

  31. I need this because my husband and I both teach school full time and are very active in our church. We also have sports and civic club commitments, as well as family commitments. On top of this, I am getting ready to start a Master's program next month! I NEED my kids to help out more around the house without me nagging them (or hubby!) to death!

  35. Wow, this would be great. As a mother of 4 boys I really would like them to grow up as men who will help their wives out with the housework. Maybe this will get them motivated!

  36. I would absolutely love to have this for my family. I am expecting #5 in October, and my oldest is 11. The others are 5, 4, and 2. My daughter feels like I "make her do everything and the other kids don't do anything at all." It isn't true, but knowing how to delegate age-appropriate chores, or just getting my kids to say "Hey, I'll help out!" - especially with another one coming would be AWESOME.

  37. I feel the same way the mean mom!
I have a 9 year old who doesn't feel she needs to do chores especially cleaning her room and keeping up with putting her dirty laundry in the basket. It doesn't set a good example for her 4 yr old sister. I need all the help I can get with these two. I feel like I am always yelling to put things away and to clean up after themselves. I know there is a better way with this system.

  38. I think this system looks wonderful. I have been trying to read up on this very idea of how to involve my kids in the whole process of how a house runs. It had been a bit of a challenge for me because I am a Born Organizer and since I was a kid have loved to clean and organize. BUT I want my kids to learn that they need to contribute. I am at a loss of how to get started and think this would be a fantastic help!

  39. Oh my goodness! What an awesome product!!! My kids may be too young for this but at the same time, why not start implementing a system that works at a young age? Right? And believe me, I need all the help I can get when it comes to cleaning the house. It's just not my thing. Being the Cinderella in my family growing up, made me despise housework. YIPES!!!!

  40. What a wonderful product, my oldest is 3 1/2 so its about time she starts learning how to help with chores. Do you think that it would work on husbands too? ;)

  44. I so need this. I homeschool both of my girls and we are on the road a lot as well. Lately I feel so disorganized... and struggle with the kids and their chores and half of the time I just end up doing them myself just to get them done. Don't get me wrong, they help... but manage to just about kill one another in the process... they argue of who's job it is to do what. I have been looking for something to help me get a better handle on it all. :)

  46. This sounds great! My little Jeffrey's new thing to say to me is "no Mommy, i'm only going to do what I want." or "i won't do that" when asked to help with picking up. I would love to learn more about what style to use for getting him to help with cleaning! His little sister Macee is watching him too... I need help nipping it in the bud before it gets worse! I NEED THIS!!!

  47. I think I'll just hire Janet to enter my small, unorganized and crazy apartment! This sounds like just the tool that may leave me with some sanity and happiness to raise the 4 adorable children I have-when I can look past the messes ;) This is a must have for our family, the chore chart has been ripped down out of frustration, the kids just expect rewards or me to do it for them and aren't learning anything! What an awesome giveaway, thank you!

  51. Oh My god! I hope I'm not too late for this...but I sooo need this! My daughter has resorted to hiding out in her room for hours on end and then opening her door only an inch or two when I knock...it's actually pretty comical, but it's only because she just KNOWS I'm going to ask her for help with something, and her TV, crafts and sewing machine are so much better than helping mom with the chores. HELP!!!
