...being a foodie

To all of you (ahem....family) that thought it could never be done, I can cook a dinner and it actually tastes okay! In fact, I think my food is usually really good! (I know my husband loves me and would say anything to make me happy, but he tells me he loves my food every time I cook...)

Yes, at one time in my life, I couldn't bake a potato or boil an egg. (And that "one time" wasn't very long ago...) I remember when I was a senior in high school trying to cook pasta. I had no idea that I had to use water to boil pasta and ended up ruining my mother's pan. Yes, it is true; Sad, but true. (Confession: I took that pan and chucked it in the neighboring farmer's field cause I was too scared to show it to my mom.)

Now, I have actually developed a passion for food. I love it! I love cooking interesting things with ingredients most people have never heard of. I love making my food aesthetically pleasing and beautiful. I have way too many recipe books and actually read them FOR FUN! It is funny how time changes us...

  1. I am so glad to benefit from your food skills. Remember when you made those sugar cookies several years ago? That was awesome...

I love that cooking and food is such a socially acceptable/trendy thing to do now.

  3. it is true, after that mac and cheese attempt I thought you were doomed to breakfast foods for the rest of your life. But I have to say, we are all very impressed. You have surpassed my wanna-be-chef-ness, long ago.

  5. I also love the apron! I am so glad you wrote this post... it gives me hope. I will admit that I am not the best cook on the planet. As we have discussed, I am a baker, not a cook! I have to follow a recipe to the T in order for things to work out. So thank you for the little ray of hope. Maybe one day I will be able to cook... I know Jerry sure is praying for that day...

  16. i always tell new brides to never admit that they cannot cook because the label will follow them forever- go into a marriage telling everyone how much you enjoy it and how good you are at it and nobody will know the difference- and the day will come when you really will know how and you don't want to be stuck with the label that you haven't a clue....
a family member named after a dog
    - now that's different...

  19. How cool!! You need to pass your knowledge on to me, because I HATE cooking. I won't say I'm the worst, but I pretty much stink at it most the time. No fun for me!!!!!
And when I think about cooking for probably 40 more years of my life I get so overwhelmed, I want to die!! lol.
