...the overdone-ness of christmas and hawaii

We are currently in Hawaii. I love the weather! The trade winds just picked up, so the humidity is low(er). It is the most perfect temperature and the beach is about a minute walk from my parent's house. I love it here. I keep hearing about the snow back home and I am getting a little depressed about the thought of returning in 2 weeks.

Christmas is going to be low key this year. I just can't get into the gifts. I bought E two or three gift, C one little thing, and J and I aren't buying each other anything. We have money set aside for gifts, we just don't want to buy them. Sometimes I wish we could just celebrate the birth of the Savior and forgo the whole Santa/present part. Wouldn't that be wonderful???

Maybe one day I will get up the courage to propose it to my family...

By the way...the two adorable crafts on the top are two of my craft goals. I am going to make them by Christmas next year! (I think I can handle that...)
Glass-Ball Wreath
Snowy Balloon Ornaments

  1. I can totally relate to the struggles of gift giving. Gifts are going to come to our kids regardless of how many we give them, and last year Addie totally was on overload by the time she finished with presents from various grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. It gets out of control so fast. I often think about a more simple Christmas.

  2. Hear hear! I am so frustrated with presents sometimes. I think KC and I aren't really getting anything for each other either. We might decide one family gift that we both want, but other than that, why do it? It's much more fun to give gifts to kids.

  3. My parents best friends have always given their kids three gifts like how Jesus got three gifts and they have this whole spiritual program thing they do and they are really cool, normal people and their kids are our age and well adjusted. I can get the specs if you are interested.
